Join The Movement To End World Hunger

OVERVIEW
Over 850 million people around the world are starving and the situation is getting worse every day because there is a global food shortage.

Every 5 seconds a child dies from hunger somewhere in the world – the equivalent of thirty-seven 747 planes filled with children crashing every day (18,000 children). Hunger kills more people than war, AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, and with today’s soaring commodity prices, climate changes, increased conflicts and war, and demographic trends, the problem is worse than ever before.

MISSION
Join Yum! Brands in annual “World Hunger Relief 2008” campaign to raise awareness, volunteerism and desperately needed funds for the United Nations World Food Programme.

In a first of its kind initiative, Yum! Brands joined with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to create "World Hunger Relief Week" in October 2007 to raise awareness, volunteerism and desperately needed funds in an attempt to help end world hunger. As a result of last year’s campaign, Yum! and our brands – KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food – raised awareness through TV, print, public-service announcements, public relations, web-based communications and in-restaurant posters and signage around the world. More than one million employees, franchisees and their families volunteered four million hours to aid hunger relief efforts in communities worldwide. The effort raised $16 million for the WFP and other hunger relief organizations and helped save over 1.6 million people from starvation in remote corners of the world, where hunger is most prevalent.

This year, Yum! is proud to partner again with the WFP to help end world hunger. This year’s second annual in-restaurant and online “World Hunger Relief 2008” Fall campaign has been extended to several weeks in order to address the harsh reality that nearly one billion people around the world are starving and the situation is getting worse every day because there is a global food shortage.
Our core philanthropic mission is to feed people in need. Yum! and our brands have been committed to fighting hunger for more than a decade by donating $50 million of prepared food annually to the underprivileged in the U.S. We understand, however, that hunger has no borders. As the world’s largest restaurant company, addressing the issue of hunger on a global scale is a natural fit. We reached out to the world’s largest hunger relief agency, and subsequently, our senior executives made visits to WFP operations in Sudan and Guatemala. After seeing the WFP in action, we were compelled to create an unprecedented, globally-focused effort to raise awareness about hunger and raise funds to help feed the hungry poor by donating to the WFP.

With your help, we can make a huge impact and help end hunger around the world for the second year. Together we can help significantly in bridging the gap between hunger and hope.

Here’s what you can do:

#1 Donate now to the campaign or learn to help save lives
#2 Spread the word with friends and family
#3 DISPLAY the campaign in your profile

Satay Celup Trip @ Jln. Ong Kim Hoon, Malacca

My half-day trip at Malacca just to stop over for satay celup. We (Chloe, my sister and I) drove up for 3hours and arrived at about 3.30 pm. The historic town was quite silent at that time, most day-trippers have left and the shops were enjoying the lull before the evening crowds.

First stop, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, which just a few steps right away from our parking lot. This Chinatown temple, so called Temple of the Evergreen Clouds, said to be the area’s oldest, boasts colorful glass and porcelain figures and intricate wood carvings. From there we walked to the delicious popiah stall at Jonker's street, although not as well-known as that one on Jalan Bunga Raya, coz I don't know the Malacca driving direction well. Unless I'm ready to install GPS system in my VIOS. And the popiah man was very busy and yeah~ he ignore me!

Cendol is simple, just five ingredients: shaved ice, chewy pandan-flavored 'pasta', coconut milk, condensed milk, and gula Melaka syrup. Add-ins like sago pearls, nuts and red beans are optional. So far I still recommended the cendol at Donald and Lily's Nyonya Food, famous with Nyonya Laksa. There are many places in Malacca serving Nyonya Laksa, but this is one of my favourite.

Donald & Lily’s Corner is located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Heeren Street), within walking distance from Jonker Street and the reddish Dutch Square. However, the location of Donald & Lily’s Corner is less noticeable. Must walk to the back of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. But closed early.

Then I brought them to a cendol stall, opposite Chicken Rice Ball restaurant. Ran by a Malay? Indo? and interior decorated with Coke bottles and oldies collection.

Ban Lee Hiang Satay Celup along Jalan Ong Kim Wee is where our trip mission to be, where the locals prefer. But make sure you manage to reach there earlier, not for reserved but to get a nice parking place during dinner time. Like the popiah, only a few good food in Malacca. It's like a steamboat, sticks of foods are dipped into a spicy satay gravy. And the fact the pot is not changed every time new customes sit at the table. At first we thought can walk there. Until I lost my way, followed given information by local people there, and small accident happened on Chole's slippers. So I decided to drove.

There isn't much variety, just the basics like pork, shrimps, liver, braised pig ears, see-hum, quail eggs, assorted fish paste balls and such, yau-char kwai (my fav), kangkung, bean-skin cakes etc., but all were chosen for their propensity to soak up the terrific sauce. Not expensive. 40 cents per stick, 50 cents for the premium stuff like liver and pork. 3 of us damaged only ard RM40.

After that we skipped the Geographer Cafe, to Pahlawan Mall, until get her a shoe replacement before head back to Seremban. A very unwell-planned Malacca trip by me. Haha drop me a call if wanna follow me next time.

Tioman Trip @ Tioman Paya Resort

DAY1, July 31st 2008
Thursday 8pm, we (Jackal, San, Qi, and Chloe) met at Queen Street Terminal for the bus to Johor Bahru. 5 of us overnight at Jackal’s place at Taman Setia Indah, while awaiting other from Kuala Lumpur & Klang which will reach Larkin Terminal around 4am.

DAY2, August 1st 2008
Early 7am, we woke up to prepare our journey. This will be my first time traveling to Tioman Island. I’m traveling with a group of friends and staying at Tioman Paya Resort.

Jackal & Qi drove us for breakfast and I ordered roti canai with spicy gravy and chili sambal, of coz with my Iced Coffee Gau-Gau. After 2hours driving distance, finally we reached the Mersing Ferry Terminal around 10am, for our ferry to Tioman Island, lies about 32Miles from terminal.

We were so excited on the ferry. Can’t wait to jump on the deck and enjoy photo-taking with nice seascape. But that excitement only last for 20minutes. Most of us fall seasickness easily, except these 3 monkeys growth up at beach: Jackal, Qi and San. If not mistaken I think they growth up at beach, a typical beach boy haha.

One thing for sure, Tioman Island is fucking hot..really! After resort check-in, we went for a quick lunch with big bowl of Ice-Kacang from Malay Stall. As expected, their cook not that fantastic at all, plus their lousy customer service. But who care? We're fucking hungry after few hours journey. Thumbs up for Ice-Kacang. First time saw it topped up with milo..must try!

Firstly, we went to the rockfall in front of our chalet direction, start with a short distance of jungle trekking. With the icy-cold water there, we all got refreshed from tiredness. And there was my 1st time tried natural spa Jacuzzi. Of coz, with our photo-taking here with lots of funny action. Later on big boys and girls went for their snorkeling nearby the beach and I'm resting and swimming at poolside there, where just behind the Duty-Free Shop.

Few hours later i went back and prepared for dinner. A well-prepared Chinese cuisine by resort, veges..omelet..soup..sweet sour fish and fried sotong..yummy. After dinner together we walk around other resort along the beach. Slacking around, photo shooting, eat ice-cream, buy drink.

At first night everyone fall asleep early, except me and Chloe. We went for movie screening at Paya Diver's Cove. Watching Madagascar, Star Wars with RM40 white wine and Ikan Bakar for supper. That's how I spent my 1st day & night at Tioman Island.

DAY3, August 2nd 2008
With Nikon D40 ready, I walked around the resort and beach early in the morning. Followed another group of people, watched them catching some lively marine life before rising tide. So unbelievable and I gotta show you below.

Our snorkeling today at 9.30am. We used our breakfast at cafe, where served toasted bread, stir egg, sausages and cooled baked bean. Of coz hot coffee and milk tea. I gotta thumbs-up again for this simple meal, especially when the resort owner topped-up us with bowl of stir egg and 1x sausage for each of us. After that we carried our equipment to the jetty. We 10pax board a fishing boat and start our activities again, which is photo-taking and making noise around.

1st stop>>Duty Free Shop
A place where we bought our cigarette, wine and carton of beer for BBQ dinner tonight. It also considered a better village, and education provided for Tioman's resident.

2nd stop>>Marine Park
A place where we did fish feeding and snorkeling. Famous attraction with Marine Aquarium. Also, marine borer? a tiny yet transparent marine life, which keep biting me during snorkeling. No worry coz they left you no wound but tiny red dot which itchy your skin. And our lunch box with salted egg, salty cabbage, thinly chicken wing and salty sambal with rice.

3rd stop>>Broccoli looked island?
A place where we're here today for. With colorful coral view, fish surrounding you and our 1st enemy, marine borer.

We spent about few hours on the sea.

Back to resort, we had high tea at the ABC stall. Same thing we ordered ABC and our local delight Ramli Burger. This time Qi the person in-charged. He "made" all our ABC and served it nicely haha. Thumbs-up!

We carry-on our activities like kite-flying and beach volleyball! Firstly I am in the team with LeeTeng, San, Michael & Jason, against team Kynki, Cally, Chloe, Qi & Jackal. Guess our team are too strong to beat, end up we're requested to switch over San with Chloe. Still I think "我们这一组要输很难。" Coz obviously our attacking power and defending much more stronger than competitor, especially Jason, LeeTeng & Chloe tried their best serving, and scored. Michael's 离间计 and my netball defensing skill. Perfect formation.

Until then we had our BBQ dinner. A bit disappointed. Thought we can have something rich grilled food. Resort served grilled chicken wing, calamari(squid), sausages, BBQ fish with fried rice and noodles. Not half bad. After the dinner we walked along the beach, resting and drink some beer. Some people claimed that saw meteor at the night. Well..

DAY4, August 3rd 2008
Gotta check-out today before 10am. After breakfast, we gathered and wait for our return ferry at jetty. I enjoyed photo-taking around the jetty when i saw these kids fishing squid there, but some still feel hang over from last night. Think they finished all 30s can beer one shoot last night. We're too tired and fall asleep during the return journey. All in corona-rest mode until Mersing terminal. Haha.

Evening, we visited Jusco at Tebrau City. Had our dinner at Thai restaurant, KTV and X-Files movie session before heading back to Taman Setia Indah. I bought myself a new bag from Padini Concept Shop. Cost me about S$35 after discount.

DAY5, August 4th 2008
Monday 6am. We woke up for breakfast and sent LeeTeng, Kynki, Cally & Michael to catch their coach back to Kuala Lumpur. We stayed accompany until all of them boarded their bus. After Qi and San rush back to Singapore. Chloe and I shop at City Square for moment before back Singapore. Jackal and Jason went back to sleep again I think. Haha.
